We are excited to announce that the White Plains High School One Acts will kick off June with a lively performance on June 4. One Acts are scenes from movies and TV shows, acted out by our very own peers here at WPHS. The One Acts will take place on June 4 in the Little Theater. Ms. Cepler oversees the show, but students are responsible for all aspects of preparation, including cast communication, costumes, and lighting.
We believe it’s important to keep the arts alive at White Plains, allowing students to have a creative outlet for self-expression, letting their imaginations run wild. The One Acts are especially exciting because they give students a chance to step into the role of a director, recreating choreography and dialogue from their favorite scenes and watching their visions come to life.
One of the most anticipated shows is “Dance Moms,” directed by junior Michael Mark. “Dance Moms” is a reality TV show about young girls who invest their time, trust, and money in the Abby Lee Dance Company, while the mothers argue with the tough, mean, and strict dance teacher, Abby Lee Miller. The moms are constantly fighting with Abby over injustices, bad choreography, favoritism, and mismanagement of the girls. The heavy drama, intense fights, and behind-the-scenes drama are a must-watch, and you won’t want to miss the One Acts.
“The One Acts are a great opportunity for students to be creative and take responsibility as directors,” said Ms. Cepler. “So far, the rehearsals are going well, and they’re really fun,” said Samantha Hudson, one of the actors in the “Dance Moms” One Act.
Director Michael Mark said, “It was really refreshing, fun, and thrilling to get to work with such incredibly talented actors that made the experience special.”
The cast includes Leah Corpus (Maddie), Haziel Perez (Chloe), Belle Cepler (Melissa), Samantha Hudson (Brooke), Alice Brodsky (Jill), Brielle Scott (Nia), Viviana Gerontzos (Kendall), Molly Powers (Christi), Elena Bediako (Holly), Hailey Green (Kelly), Isabella Perez (Gianna) and last but certainly not least, Jordan Adeniyi (Abby).
The One Acts sound amazing. We hope to see all of you in the audience!
