WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — The No. 6-seeded White Plains Tigers ousted the Ossining Pride, 8–2, in the first round of the Section 1 Baseball Tournament.
White Plains entered the matchup with a 12–8 record and had already notched two wins over Ossining during the regular season. Freshman Sean McKeon led the way on the mound, pitching a complete game with 10 strikeouts.
Senior center fielder Henry Ginter also played a key role, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs to help extend the lead.
“The team’s heart and preparation for playoffs fueled us to victory,” Gi
nter said. “Stay locked in, [and] play for each other.”
After falling behind 2–0 early, the Tigers responded quickly, erasing the deficit and pulling away for a strong win. Ginter and fellow senior Tyler Older delivered clutch hits, combining for several RBIs to break the game open.
“Despite [the] slow start,” Ginter said, “we never lost confidence in our ability.”
White Plains will face Mamaroneck in the quarterfinals at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. Star pitcher Gavin Townsend, who is committed to play Division I baseball, is expected to start as the Tigers look to punch their ticket to the semifinals.
