A Time-Honored Tradition Revived- the Tiger Awards Ceremony

By Leah Corpus

White Plains High School is proud to announce the return of its Tiger tradition: the Student of the Month award. Each marking period, a student who has gone above and beyond will be recognized for their hard work during the quarter.

The Student of the Month award acknowledges a student's leadership, dependability, kindness, service, and contributions to the WPHS community. This award serves as a motivational tool, encouraging students to participate more actively, adopt disciplined study habits, improve their grades, and think critically. It highlights students who are committed to academic excellence and personal growth.

Students do not need to be nominated for a specific subject to receive the Student of the Month award. It can be given to anyone who demonstrates academic achievement or exceptional effort to improve. A Student of the Month may also be someone who shows kindness, cooperates with peers, helps others, and fosters a positive, constructive environment. Other qualities that may lead to a nomination include a positive attitude, active participation in class, initiative, and a genuine interest in learning and contributing to the high school community.

Teachers nominate students who display outstanding growth, make better decisions, or show increased effort both inside and outside the classroom.

The ceremonial breakfast, held in the library, was a heartwarming event attended by faculty, parents, and students. The Tiger Award and Student of the Month ceremony provided an opportunity to celebrate students' exceptional work and growth, helping them feel like a valued part of the White Plains High School community.
