The National Art Honor Society (NAHS) is an after-school club that serves as the meeting point for all creatives at White Plains High School. Accepting artists of all kinds, NAHS aims to educate and satiate those interested in the visual arts while emphasizing the following core principles: creativity, interconnectivity, inclusivity, ingenuity, and responsibility.
Mr. Chiariello, one of the art teachers here and the advisor of NAHS, helps support our artists and create an inviting environment for all. This year’s president, Izzy Dozza, and Evangeline Dalton have led the club, assisting Mr. Chiariello and overseeing all NAHS projects.
This year’s NAHS team project is a scientific mural, planned to be installed above the lockers in the G-building science corridor. As a tribute to science, 17 concentrations were chosen to be depicted on the mural. Simultaneously, NAHS offers multiple activities to participate in throughout the year, with opportunities such as having artwork displayed at Pamplemousse Café in downtown White Plains and entering art contests both within and outside of school.
Currently, the honor society consists of 69 members, 53 of whom are set to be inducted this April. To become a member, students must be currently taking or have previously taken an art class at the high school (or Advanced Art in 8th grade), have a 90 or higher in an art class, and maintain a B average in other subject areas. Freshmen and sophomores are welcome to join the club, but only juniors and seniors are considered eligible for induction into the honor society.
