In a fantastic display of skill and teamwork, the Girls Varsity Field Hockey team celebrated a significant 6-0 victory against Brewster this past Thursday.
Starting the game strong, White Plains protected the goal and ended the first quarter 0-0. Going into the second quarter, the Tigers’ offense quickly found its rhythm. Just two minutes in, Mckenna Austin scored the first goal for White Plains. Eight minutes later, Olivia Doria added to the lead with a beautiful corner goal, her first of the season.
As Brewster got more determined, feeling the pressure, their defense made a game-changing foul, leading to a stroke for White Plains. Alexis Tighe capitalized on the opportunity, flicking the ball perfectly into the right corner of the net, putting the Tigers up by three at the end of the first half.
The second half of the game tested the Tigers' defense, led by goalkeeper Abigail Arndt, but they did not give up any goals. White Plains made some pivotal substitutions, allowing Taylor Lee and Isabella Reidy to score their first Varsity points and put White Plains up 5-0 going into the fourth quarter.
In the final moments of the game, the Tigers maintained their shutout, and Allie Garelick capped off the scoring with her first varsity goal, sealing the Tigers’ 6-0 win.
Overall, this was an incredible whole-team win and an incredibly special game for all four of the players who each scored their first Varsity goal.
