Mariachi Juvenile Los Tigres

By Genesis Oquendo

Mariachi Juvenile Los Tigres, known as New York’s first public high school mariachi, is White Plains High School’s own student run mariachi that celebrates Mexican culture through performing at school events, running fundraisers of traditional Mexican food, and holding our very own city-wide event, Musica Y Mole.

On April 27, we held our most popular event Musica y Mole where we had a group of vendors compete in a mole cooking competition, judged by a committee of honored guests. Folk dancers and other mariachis performed. We are looking forward to this school year's event.

For those simply looking to learn a new instrument, Mariachi Club every meeting breaks up into sections to provide one-on-one help. Eventually, as an entire mariachi ensemble we perform at the annual school music concerts.

Junior Varsity Mariachi meets every Monday after school from 2:45-3:30 PM in room D110 (orchestra room). Come learn a new instrument (guitar, guitarron, harp, vihuela, etc.), how to sing, or just experience the beauty of Mexican culture with us. No prior music experience is necessary!
