New Year, New Gifts: A Guide to After-Holiday Surprises

By Leah Corpus

Now that the holiday season has come and gone, we’re filled with excitement for all the possibilities the new year holds. To start 2025 on the right note, here’s a post-holiday gift guide offering ideas for friends, family, and loved ones as we head into the new year!

Got some holiday cash and wondering what to buy yourself? You can never go wrong with classic treats like chocolate, favorite snacks, or even more money. For babies, essentials like blankets, clothes, and soft toys are always appreciated. Little kids enjoy toys, books, clothes, gift cards to their favorite stores, or trips to their favorite places.

Teens, on the other hand, love to shop for everything from clothes and shoes to technology accessories and self-care items. Small room décor, water bottles, fuzzy blankets, games, books, makeup, skincare products, bags, LED lights, jewelry, and money are all solid choices. Athletes may appreciate athletic wear or motivational stickers, while artists will love arts and crafts kits, embroidery materials, sketch pencils, paints, or other supplies.

For family fun, consider gifts the whole group can enjoy, like board games, a PlayStation 5, or a Nintendo Switch. Smaller gifts like scented candles, incense, a JBL speaker, mindfulness journals, or mini massagers are thoughtful ways to treat yourself or show appreciation to others.

When you're stumped on what to get someone, try thinking about what they enjoy doing. What are their interests or hobbies? Maybe they love plants, fashion, traveling, or coffee. If they’re into cooking or music, or maybe even tech gadgets, there are plenty of options. And don’t forget: sometimes, a person might drop a subtle hint by mentioning what they’re buying for someone else.

One gift that’s always appreciated is something handmade—a craft, a card, a piece of jewelry—because it shows personal thought and care.
