Optional Regents Exams Coming Soon

By Alisha Ahmed

The school year is coming to an end, which means Regents exams are closing in on students. However, as we all know, this isn't just any other school year, so the Regents will look different - there are now choices for students.

The Regents will be optional for students in the 2020-2021 school year, according to the announcement. This means that if a student is taking a Regents course, he or she is not required to take the Regents to receive credit. To get a Regents credit, you must pass both the final exam and the course, just like last year. But unlike last year, the Regents are available for anyone who wishes to take them.

If you intend to take the Regents, you should be aware that they will not affect your chances of receiving a credit. Taking the Regents exam will neither harm nor benefit you, but the final exam is required. The school district had planned to have the regents cancelled, but that plan was not accepted, so WPHS is now required to offer the Regents to students.

Whatever option you choose, it is critical to remember to study and to try to stress as little as possible. There are numerous resources available to assist students in studying and preparing to perform well on either the regents or the final exam.
