Spring Sports a Great Way to Alleviate Stress

By Amber Lau

Spring is here and with the new season comes new opportunities and sports! At school, spring can be the most stressful time of the year for many students, as they must prepare for final examinations, Regents Exams, AP Exams, and more. We are in the last stretch of the 2020-2021 school year and exciting things are quickly approaching, but first, we must make it through these stressful tests. This stress can cause many teenagers to lose their mental stability and motivation, but there are many things we can do to stay on track! One of these things is to stay physically active. Exercise can not only make you feel productive, but it can help stimulate an actively functioning brain, and help bring up your grades!

Back in the fall, there was much more uncertainty about pretty much everything. Most students only came in person to school once a week, which made it even more difficult to plan for sports teams. Nobody was really sure what was going to happen, and more focus was on trying to get more students back into the building. Now that we have come as far as full in-person learning (if you choose), there are many more opportunities for students to get involved. All sports teams are up and running for the spring, and many clubs are even beginning to meet in-person if possible. Things are slowly shaping up to get better, and although the school year is approaching its end, it is never too late to become more actively involved! Joining a sports team can help in so many aspects, whether it be helping you to de-stress about upcoming tests or even making some new lifelong friendships!

If you have extra time in your busy schedules, consider joining one of these teams, even if you are a complete beginner! Any type of exercise will help your mental and physical health, and can potentially help you score well on your important tests coming up. This past year has no doubt taken a toll on many students’ motivation levels, and it is time to seize the opportunity to get back on track. White Plains High School has access to incredible facilities for all sports, so don’t miss out on the chance to play for a team! If you decide to join one of these sports, don’t forget to spread the word to friends about it too! Let’s finish off this year strong!
