Sibling March in White Plains Is Among Hundreds of Local Marches Following the Recent Shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School
White Plains, NY – On Saturday, March 24 at 1 PM, approximately 3,000 community members from Westchester County are expected to gather for a “sibling march” as part of the March for Our Lives movement. The march is one of hundreds happening around the country planned by students in solidarity with survivors of gun violence. The purpose of the march is to call on lawmakers to make students’ lives and well-being a priority and to pass common-sense gun safety legislation.
“It is time to stop gun violence from tearing up communities. As a teenager, I realize how powerful my voice is, and that this is our time to speak out about a cause that is very important to me because it should not be affecting every individual in the United States. This is our future that we are fighting for, the future for the next generations too,” said Kelly Marx, 18-year-old senior at White Plains High School and student organizer for the Westchester County March for Our Lives.
The rally and march in White Plains will enable people from all over Westchester County to raise their voices along with the more than 500 marches planned thus far around the globe.
The idea to march came from grieving students in Parkland, FL after a 19-year-old former student shot and killed 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on February 14th.

At 1 PM march from Post Road Elementary School to White Plains Public Library. Rally will begin around 2PM next to the MLK Statue behind the White Plains Public Library, and will feature short remarks from student activists.
