The Class of 2029 meets every Thursday, advised by White Plains High School teachers Ms. Simmons and Ms. Pallogudis. The club fundraises money for the 2029 graduating class and has a goal of $3,000 by the end of this year.
Every meeting consists of voting on how the class will spend the money earned. Officers brainstorm ways to fundraise and decide which ideas are best. Fundraising is usually fun and profitable, and any idea is accepted. Some fundraisers this year included selling trifles at the craft fair and Tiger Community Time.
Most of what the Class of 2029 sells, they make during meetings. Crafts can include many things, including adorable desk pets (pom-poms with googly eyes and feet), backpack pets, displays and ornaments. These are all easy to make and add a fun activity to club meetings.
The Class of 2029’s last fundraising effort took place Tuesday, March 17, and Wednesday, March 18. Volunteers Grace Karam, Pippa White, Amara Older, Maya Amir and Oliver Chow sold cupcakes after school by the auditorium. Additionally, the club held an online spirit wear fundraiser that recently closed. Orders and products will be coming in soon.
Upcoming fundraisers include a Buffalo Wild Wings fundraising partnership and selling snacks at the Loucks Tournament. Make sure to visit the downtown White Plains Buffalo Wild Wings location to support the Class of 2029. The class will also be selling food during the Loucks Tournament for runners and spectators on May 7.
Grace Karam and Amara Older are co-presidents of the club. Both take part in weekly meetings, often led by Karam. Officers should attend all meetings, but any member of the Class of 2029 is welcome to most. Rarely, meetings are officers-only; this is the only time when not everyone can attend.
If you are a current ninth grader, Class of 2029 meetings are a great way to get involved with your class. Fundraising efforts help determine many things, such as ticket prices for junior and senior prom. There are also many fun volunteer opportunities for anyone in need of community service hours.
