On Sunday, February 1, 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie was not present for Sunday Mass, which is out of character for her. A parishioner notified her family, and, not long after that, she was reported missing.
Guthrie is the mother of Savannah Guthrie, co-anchor of the “Today Show,” who had to drop her plans to travel to Milan, Italy for the Winter Olympics and instead head to Arizona to search for her missing mother.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department believes that she was taken from her bed against her will in the middle of the night. Starting February 2, her disappearance was treated as a crime.
Her pacemaker syncs with her phone but was disconnected at 2 a.m. on Sunday. According to authorities, Guthrie can’t walk 50 yards by herself and requires daily medication—going 24 hours without taking it could be fatal.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos “believe[s] she was abducted.” The Sheriff’s Department is asking for the community’s help and footage from home cameras because the abductor removed all the cameras around Miss Guthrie’s home.
Media outlets such as TMZ and KOLD News 13 have received alleged ransom notes via email demanding millions of dollars in bitcoin. Savannah Guthrie and her siblings, Camron and Annie, said in a video posted on Instagram, “We will pay.”
Authorities released eerie images and video of an armed individual with a ski mask and gloves from Guthrie’s porch camera. Both deadlines from the supposed ransom notes have passed, and Nancy’s life could be threatened since they weren’t met.
On February 13, Nanos reported that they have “good leads” in the investigation but still don’t know where she could be.
