On October 18, 2025, more than 7 million Americans came out all over the country to protest U.S. President Donald Trump’s use of executive power. The protesters marched under the slogan “No Kings,” a popular Anti-Trump sentiment. Over 2,700 of these events took place across the country, demonstrating how many Americans are disgruntled with President Trump’s agenda and actions both at home and abroad. Locally, White Plains hosted a protest across from Bloomingdale’s. This event was specifically for seniors, although it was open to all ages. Nearby, Brewster and Yonkers also held large gatherings for the protests, with the Brewster event drawing over 4,000 people, the largest gathering in the history of the small village.
No Kings protests have quickly spread across the nation, and many Americans have planted signs in support of the movement outside of their residences. Gatherings are massive and feature influential speakers who inform the public about the cause. Many protesters wear bright yellow—the No Kings website states, “Yellow is a bright, unmistakable reminder that millions of us stand together in the belief that America belongs to its people, not to kings.” This powerful statement shows the dedication of many citizens to full civil freedom.
The No Kings cause makes it clear that citizens will not stand for a transformation from a democracy into a monarchy: a shift that some say is already taking place. Many argue that Trump’s actions show signs of overstepping executive power, citing his abuse of the presidential pardon, which he uses to free his biggest supporters from jail time, fines or gag orders. Trump has also filled powerful positions using a strategy seemingly based solely on the applicant’s loyalty to him. One example of this practice is Trump’s pick for U.S. Attorney General, Pam Bondi, a longtime republican and former Florida Attorney General. Some Americans believe that these actions could be considered abuses of presidential power. It remains to be seen how the courts will respond.
As we move into the second year of President Trump’s term, Americans are going to be forced to decide whether they made the right choice on Election Day. Platforms like No Kings will make a definite impact on this country’s future and potentially on the president’s next moves.
